On the other hand we denounce with righteous indignation and dislike men who are so beguiled ralized by the charms of pleasure of the moment, so blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee the pain and trouble that are bound to ensue and equal blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness

Must explain to you how all this mistaken idea of denouncing pleasure and praising pain was born and I will give you a complete account of the system, and expound the actual teachings of the great explorer of the truth, the master-builder of human happiness. No one rejects, dislikes, or avoids pleasure itself, because it is pleasure, but because those who do not know how to pursue pleasure rationally encounter consequences that are extremely painful. Nor again is there anyone who loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but because occasionally circumstances.
Polygon completed a major token migration, transitioning from MATIC to POL as the native token. If you are holding MATIC or planning to stake, it is important to understand what changed and how staking now works under the POL model.
What Is POL?
POL is the new native token of the Polygon ecosystem, replacing MATIC as part of Polygon's 2.0 upgrade. The migration was designed to allow POL to serve a broader set of roles across Polygon's expanding network of chains, beyond what MATIC could support under the original design.
How the Migration Works
Existing MATIC holders can migrate their tokens to POL at a 1:1 ratio. The migration is handled through an official Polygon migration contract. After migration, POL takes over the roles that MATIC previously fulfilled, including transaction fee payments, staking, and governance participation.
How Does POL Staking Work?
POL staking follows the same delegator model as MATIC staking on the Polygon Staking Portal. Your tokens must be ERC-20 on the Ethereum network, and you delegate to one of the active validators in the 104-validator set. Both transactions require ETH for gas fees.
Key Technical Note: Staking Is on Ethereum, Not Polygon Mainnet
Many users make the mistake of bridging their tokens to Polygon mainnet before staking. This is incorrect. Polygon (and POL) staking is conducted on the Ethereum blockchain. When withdrawing from an exchange, always select the Ethereum network or ERC-20 option. Your POL receiving address is the same as your ETH address.
What Stays the Same
The staking portal, the delegator model, the validator set, and the unbonding period all remain largely the same after the MATIC to POL migration. Rewards continue to be paid in the native token (now POL), and liquid staking providers like Stader have updated their products to support the new token.
Should You Migrate?
If you are actively staking or planning to stake, migrating to POL ensures full compatibility with the current Polygon ecosystem and upcoming upgrades. The migration is irreversible, so make sure you understand the process before proceeding. Refer to the official Polygon documentation for the most current migration instructions.
